CHAMBLEE, GA -- 11.12.23 -- The East Coweta Varsity Boys Basketball team started their 2023-2024 campaign with a scrimmage game on November 7, 2023 against the Morrow Mustangs at Morrow High School. Coach Royal Maxwell, is leading this young but talented group, made up of 2 seniors, 9 juniors, 2 sophomores and a Freshman. Coach Maxwell anticipates some growing pains but expects an exciting and successful season.
After a little more than 2 weeks of practice, the Indians went on the road to take on the Mustangs in their preseason scrimmage. The game started with jittery play from both teams but eventually seeing each team settle in. Qwes Williams electrified the crowd with a spectacular end to end thunderous dunk in the 3 quarter. The Indians maintained a small lead for most of the game leading into the 4th quarter. With the game tied at 45-45, the Indians took over the game with a 28-9 run to finish the game with a 73-54 victory.

Off the heels of their successful scrimmage, the Indians opened their season by participating in the Blockbuster Classic. Their first opponent of the season, was the #10 ranked (5A) Union Grove Wolverines (McDonough).
The Wolverines started the game with a 3 point barrage and jumped to a quick 8 point lead, but East Coweta stood firm and kept the game close through the first half. The Indians managed to take a 1-point lead in the 3rd quarter but could not keep it, going into the 4th quarter trailing. Unlike in the previous contest, East Coweta, could not gain the momentum and could not keep up with the precise 3 point shooting from Union Grove and they eventually fell to the Wolverines, 75-55.
